Easy Ways to Relieve Toothache with Medicine and Natural Ingredients

Toothache, of course, causes a great deal of discomfort and generally requires the help of a dentist to deal with it. However, in certain cases, you can do first aid at home to relieve pain by using various natural ingredients available at home.

The causes of toothache are very diverse and require different treatments. The main complaint of toothache that often arises can be a painful sensation to hot and cold, inflammation and bleeding of the gums, severe pain that radiates to the neck, shoulders, and head, and swelling in the cheek area.

To be able to deal with tooth and mouth pain and complaints, the first thing we need to know is the main cause. You can recognize the symptoms and perform first aid to relieve pain before visiting the dentist. Below are some of the causes of pain in the teeth.

1. Sensation of Pain When Drinking Hot and Cold

Pain occurs when the dentin layer of the tooth is exposed to hot or cold substances.

2. Inflammation of the gums and bleeding gums

Bleeding gums are often only noticed when someone is brushing their teeth and bleeding occurs. These two dental diseases are generally caused by tartar buildup, hormonal changes during pregnancy, inflammatory disease of the tooth-supporting tissues (periodontitis), or systemic diseases such as uncontrolled diabetes.

3. Coral and Holes in the Teeth

Plaque buildup that is missed when brushing your teeth will cause bacterial colonies that cause tartar and cavities in the teeth.

4. Abscess or Swelling

is an advanced infection that results from cases of cavities or inflammation of the supporting tissues of the teeth that are not treated immediately. Bacteria from the oral cavity enter the tooth cavity or inflamed gum tissue and then cause infection in the tissue. It is usually marked by the presence of pus-filled boils on the gums until visible swelling extends to the cheek area. The pain that is felt is generally very intense.

5. Tooth Fracture

A tooth fracture or break is the occurrence of broken or cracked teeth due to injury or trauma, which can be due to a fall or the result of biting something hard.

6. Wisdom teeth that are imperfectly growing

The growth of imperfect wisdom teeth can be seen by the characteristic that some teeth are still covered by gums. The gum area that still covers the teeth can form pockets, which cause plaque to get trapped and cause inflammation and pain, usually known as pericoronitis. Pouches that form into gaps that are difficult to clean, if they come into contact with the teeth in front of them, can cause these teeth and the teeth in front of them to have cavities.

7. Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD)

It is a disorder of the jaw joint. Generally, it causes symptoms of pain in the jaw joint area, difficulty chewing, the appearance of a "clicking" sound in the jaw, headache, pain in the facial area, ringing in the ears, limited mouth opening, and a locked jaw.

The cause of TMD can be caused by: loss of teeth that are not replaced; malocclusion of teeth or abnormal positioning of the teeth and jaws; poor relationship between the upper and lower jaws; improper manufacture of prostheses or dentures; accidental trauma; bad habits such as bruxism or grinding your teeth; clenching your upper and lower jaws hard; and so on.

5 Easy Ways to Relieve Toothache

There are many things you can do to relieve toothache before you visit the dentist; even the ingredients can be found at home. For complaints that are not severe, here are some ingredients that can be used to relieve aches and pains that you experience:

1. Gargle with warm salt water.

Gargling is an effective way to release food debris that is still in the mouth. You can add half a teaspoon of salt to a glass of warm water to gargle. Research states that salt has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, so it can help kill bad bacteria in the mouth and relieve swelling.

2. Cloves

According to the Journal of Dentistry, cloves contain the compound eugenol, which is able to relieve pain and aches when you have a toothache. An easy way to get rid of a toothache using cloves is to bite the clove stem on the part that hurts. If you are unable to do so, you can use other alternatives, such as applying clove oil to a cotton ball and then applying it to the sore area.

But keep in mind that using cloves can cause various reactions. The reactions caused can be in the form of irritation, shortness of breath, and bleeding, so you have to be careful when using it. If you are sensitive to certain ingredients, it is not recommended that you use this method.

3. Red Guava Leaves

Red guava is known not only as a medicine for dengue fever, but its leaves are also useful as an anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and analgesic (pain reliever).

You can use red guava leaves as medicine to reduce inflammation, pain, and pain in the oral cavity. You do this by chewing 1-2 red guava leaves until the water comes out and applying it to the affected part.

4. Garlic

The next most effective toothache remedy that you can easily find in your kitchen is garlic, which can be used to kill the bacteria that cause infection. It's easy; just chew garlic for a few minutes on the part that hurts. If you don't want to bite it, garlic can be thinly sliced or mashed and then placed on the sore tooth area.

However, keep in mind not to stick garlic slices or paste in the mouth for too long because it can cause burns to the lining of the mouth. Just put it a few minutes, then clean it.

5. Ice cubes

Another way you can use them is to use ice cubes as a compress. The numbness produced by the ice cubes will relieve pain as well as reduce inflammation and swelling.

Other Things That Need Attention

For some people, using drugs or natural ingredients is considered a safe way of treating their condition. Before using these natural ingredients, make sure that they are clean and that you do not have allergies to them, especially ingredients such as clove oil and garlic. Also, make sure to use it in the right way and in the right measure. Do not, because you want to get better quickly, increase the dose or combine several ingredients together so that you endanger yourself.

Also keep in mind that these natural ingredients can only be used as first aid to relieve pain. The majority of dental diseases require treatment at a dental clinic to eliminate the main cause with proper treatment based on a dentist's diagnosis.
